FVSU Discontinues Tennis Teams

Fort Valley State University announced today that, after a comprehensive review of its athletic program, the university will discontinue its men’s and women’s tennis programs.

This decision reflects today’s collegiate athletic landscape and historical budget challenges along with the university’s commitment to responsible stewardship.

“We are proud of the student-athletes, coaches and supporters who have built a proud tradition within our tennis programs,” said President Paul Jones, Ph.D. “This is a difficult decision, but it is one that reflects the university’s responsibility to maintain a sustainable athletic program.”

FVSU will honor athletic scholarships for current student-athletes receiving tennis scholarships. Additionally, no further athletic program cuts are planned.  FVSU will maintain 10 NCAA Division II and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) programs.

“We remain committed to providing high-quality facilities and opportunities for our students to stay active and engaged,” said Athletic Director Daphnie Johnson. “We want to thank the members of the Men’s and Women’s tennis team for their dedication and hard work. We also want to thank Coach Foster and Coach Felton for their years of commitment, mentorship and passion for the game.”

FVSU continues to invest in the long-term success and stability of its athletic program, ensuring that all remaining sports have the support needed to thrive.
