Celebrating 50 Years Together

DR. LOUVINCEY DEWITT & COLLIS BROWN

Dr. Louvincey Dewitt (Riggs) Brown is a 1968 valedictorian graduate of Emanuel County High School of Swainsboro, Georgia. Of the several involvements throughout high school, Dr. Brown served on the Student Council, and was honored to reign as “Miss Emanuel High” during her senior year.  In 1994 she graciously accepted the invitation to be the keynote speaker for the initial school-wide reunion.  This reunion was a grand celebration for all classes that had graduated from Emanuel County High School prior to the integration of schools in the county.

A 1972 honor graduate of Fort Valley State University, Dr. Brown received her bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education.  She also earned a master’s degree from the University of Georgia in Speech Communication and a Ph.D. degree in Linguistics and Communication from Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Brown is a Professor Emeriti of Communication from Georgia Perimeter College of Georgia State University, where she spent 24 years teaching speech communication courses and coordinating the Communications Program/Major.  Her other collegiate involvements, over the years, included curriculum design, course development, communication specialist, and numerous college-wide and departmental committees.

Dr. Brown has been affiliated with a number of appropriate professional organizations over the years such as; The National Communication Association, The Georgia Communication Association, The Linguistic Society of America, The Southeastern Conference on Language, and the South Atlantic Modern Language Association.  She is also a Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Brown and her husband of fifty years, Mr. Collis O. Brown, live in Lithonia, Georgia, and are both active members of New Life Baptist Church.  She works with the ChristianEducation Ministry and he serves as a Church Elder.  The Browns are the proudparents of two adult children; Dr. Darigg C. Brown and Dr.  Jessica Brown-Ligon.   A source of much joy, the Browns are blessed with four adorable grandchildren; Madison, Tristan, Carter, and Camryn.
