JOHNNY & VERDELL FOSTER

How They Met: By chance and by destiny, they met at the Lottie Lyon’s student center in 1981!

Their Time at FVSC/FVSU: Vérdell’s major of social work was Johnny’s minor so they had classes together.
-Johnny became a member of the Gamma Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc in 1981 and Verdell even became his Alpha Sweetheart!

Post-graduation Journey: After their graduations in 1985 and 1986, they continued to date as they pursued their careers. The Foster’s were happily wed on May 22, 1993 and settled in the Middle Georgia area. FVSC taught them lifelong values of education, community service, activism, and family. They went on to instill those same core values into their 4 children. One of their daughters even became their wildcat legacy (Johnna ‘16)!

Advice for Current Students: Sometimes it’s not what you know, but who you know! You have to be disciplined in order to meet your goals. Never forget the reasons you’re in school. Know your worth, your strength and weaknesses. If you know you will have to take a difficult class, make sure you have at least two classes you know you can ace on your schedule to keep your gpa up! Never be too proud to ask for help. It could change your life in the best way!
